ID Cabasa Reveals: ‘Most Nigerian Artists Hesitant About Their Kids Listening to Their Music’

Renowned record producer Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has shed light on a prevalent trend among Nigerian artists, asserting that many musicians who are parents don’t want their children to listen to their own songs.

In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, co-hosted by actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka Nedu, Cabasa delved into the reasons behind this phenomenon. He emphasized that explicit lyrical content is a significant factor contributing to artists’ reluctance to expose their kids to their music.

According to Cabasa, the pressure from music executives and the need to cater to a specific market often lead artists to produce content that may not align with their personal values. He suggested that many artists engage in music primarily for survival, making it challenging to strike a balance between personal identity and industry expectations.

He remarked, “I can tell you that most artists in Nigeria that you see, they don’t want their kids to actually listen to their own songs. And don’t blame them. A lot of us are doing this thing [music] for survival. So, the question is how do you balance who you are with who they [music executives] want you to be?”

The veteran producer’s insights offer a glimpse into the complex dynamics that artists navigate within the Nigerian music industry, highlighting the challenges of maintaining authenticity while meeting commercial demands.
