Love Hasn’t Been the Same Since 2020, Says Singer Tekno
Nigerian singer Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has shared his views on the state of modern relationships, claiming that love has changed significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking during a recent interview on Cool FM Lagos, the Pana hitmaker suggested that the prolonged lockdown in 2020 altered how many people viewed their romantic relationships after spending extended periods with their partners.
According to the singer, the experience led many people to reassess their feelings, resulting in what he described as “love fatigue.”
“I think since after 2020, love is not the same. I think during the lockdown people got to spend time with their lovers and realised ‘maybe I didn’t love this person as much as I think.’ I think we just grew fatigued of the ones we thought we loved the most.”
Tekno argued that the absence created by everyday routines before the pandemic helped sustain relationships, adding that constant proximity changed that dynamic.
“If you can’t appreciate the absence then the presence doesn’t really matter. So, I feel like since 2020, people have leaned into not wanting to love as much.”
The singer also claimed that marriages have become increasingly unstable in recent years and suggested that cases of infidelity have become more common.
“Marriages don’t work. You have some of our legends’ wives being chopped by young boys.”
Reflecting on changing themes in the entertainment industry, Tekno said love no longer occupies the central place it once did in storytelling.
“There was a time when love was a thing, even our movies revolve around love. But now movies are just clout. It doesn’t feel organic.”
His comments have added to ongoing conversations about the changing nature of relationships and marriage in the post-pandemic era.
