Man Arrested for Stealing Pineapples in Ogun

A 53-year-old farmer, Oloyede David, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing three bags of pineapples valued at N90,000 from a farm in Orile-Ilugun, Odeda Local Government Area.

According to the police, David was caught in the act while harvesting the pineapples from a plantation owned by a farmer, Ola Omotayo. Another farmer reportedly spotted him and quickly raised the alarm, prompting others in the area to intervene and apprehend him.

Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, stated that officers from the Orile-Ilugun outstation took the suspect into custody at approximately 11:58 a.m. on Tuesday.

“The suspect was caught with three bags of pineapples, valued at approximately N90,000. The farm owner arrived at the scene and confirmed the theft,” Odutola said.

She further revealed that Omotayo claimed she had suffered previous losses on her farm, alleging that pineapples worth about N650,000 and a submersible pumping machine valued at N180,000 had been stolen in the past.

David was subsequently taken to the police station along with the recovered produce, and the case has been transferred to the Divisional Crime Branch for further investigation.
