Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Critiques Apple’s New Headset

In a bold move, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has publicly criticized rival company Apple’s latest headset, the Vision Pro, asserting that Meta’s own offering, the Quest 3, is superior in multiple aspects.

The Vision Pro garnered attention as celebrities like Diplo and T-Pain sported it in public, showcasing its “passthrough” feature, enabling users to view their surroundings while wearing the headset. However, Zuckerberg, in a video filmed using Meta’s Quest 3 passthrough feature, emphasized that Meta’s headset is unequivocally “the best product, period.”

Passthrough technology, utilized by recent mixed reality headsets, utilizes exterior cameras to provide users with a live, high-definition video feed of their surroundings. Although Meta has been developing this technology for nearly a decade, Zuckerberg expressed frustration that the Vision Pro received acclaim for technology already existing elsewhere.

Despite acknowledging some advantages of the Vision Pro, such as higher resolution and eye-tracking, Zuckerberg emphasized the Quest 3’s superiority in various aspects, including comfort, mobility, absence of wires, wider field of view, and affordability.

Zuckerberg also took a dig at Apple’s closed model, contrasting it with Meta’s open model. He criticized “fanboys” who staunchly support Apple, asserting Meta’s commitment to an open model of computing, positioning Meta as a frontrunner in the future of mixed reality technology.
