Microsoft to Discontinue Paint 3D, Leaving Fans Disappointed
Microsoft is set to discontinue its popular Paint 3D app later this year, disappointing many fans who have grown fond of the creative tool. The news was first revealed by the leaker ‘phantomofearth,’ who noticed a banner within the app stating that it will no longer receive updates or be available in the Microsoft Store starting November 4, 2024.
Released in 2017, Paint 3D quickly gained a following among artists and hobbyists for its ability to create three-dimensional artwork, setting it apart from its predecessor, the classic MS Paint. Users could design 3D masterpieces that could be viewed and manipulated from various angles, making it a beloved tool for digital creativity.
The decision to phase out Paint 3D has sparked disappointment among its users. Some have expressed frustration on social media, with one fan calling it the “end of an era” and another lamenting that the app was superior to the classic Paint, noting that it didn’t require AI or Microsoft accounts to use.
Despite the discontinuation, those who already have Paint 3D installed will still be able to use the app beyond November 4, though it will no longer be available for download or receive updates.
This news comes on the heels of Microsoft announcing that the Start Menu on Windows 11 will soon feature advertisements for select apps, a move the company says is intended to help users discover “some of the great apps that are available.”
