Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina Denies “Pity Win” Claims, Says She Earned Her Crown
Newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has dismissed claims that her victory in the prestigious pageant was a “pity win.” Addressing critics in a recent interview with Arise News, Adetshina emphasized that she worked hard for her title despite the challenges she faced leading up to the competition.
The 23-year-old beauty queen, who previously withdrew from South Africa’s Miss Universe pageant amid allegations involving her mother, set the record straight. “A lot of people felt like it was a pity win. I don’t think so. I worked very hard, especially after the South African journey,” Adetshina stated.
She explained that the pageant preparation process was rigorous, with contestants spending 10 weeks in camp, going through various stages of the competition. “It might have been a slight difference compared to everybody else, but when you look at the journey we all went through, I had the same experience as the other contestants,” she said.
Adetshina had previously faced xenophobic backlash in South Africa after allegations of fraud and identity theft surfaced, forcing her to exit the pageant in August 2024. She later accepted an invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria, where she emerged victorious.
Despite the controversy, Adetshina remains firm in her belief that her success was the result of her hard work and dedication, not sympathy. Fans and supporters have since rallied behind her, celebrating her resilience and determination.
