My Acting Debut Made Me Respect Actors More – Ayra Starr

Grammy-nominated Nigerian music sensation, Ayra Starr, is opening up about her recent foray into the acting world, revealing that her experience on the set of the upcoming American fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone, has significantly deepened her appreciation for actors.

In a recent interview with CBS, Starr shared insights into the rigorous demands of filmmaking, a stark contrast to her established routine in the music industry. She highlighted the necessity of strict punctuality and intense dedication, pushing her beyond her comfort zone.

“It’s my first movie ever,” Starr stated, “You know, I’m used to being a singer and diva on set, but with the movie, it’s like, it’s not about you. You’ve got to be on set on time. So, it made me get used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable.”

The acclaimed singer also expressed that acting has always been a personal ambition, despite her previous shyness about performing without singing. “Acting is something I have always wanted to do,” she explained. “I love music, but I’ve always loved acting. This is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera and I’m not singing. It was amazing. I learned so much from everyone, not just the greats.”

Children of Blood and Bone is an anticipated adaptation of the popular novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu.

The film is slated for release by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2027.
