My Dad was First Person to Connect Nigeria to Internet – Eldee Claims

Veteran Nigerian musician Eldee The Don has claimed that his father was the first person to connect Nigeria to the Internet, marking a significant milestone in the country’s technological history.

In a recent interview on the Adesope Live show, Eldee shared that his father was instrumental in setting up the first cyber café in Lagos, offering internet services to oil companies and government institutions. He described his father as a pioneering figure in the tech space, noting that his work was not widely recognized because he preferred to stay out of the public spotlight.

“Thankfully, I had a dad who was involved in technology. My dad was a pioneer in his own space,” Eldee explained. “He was the first person to connect Nigeria to the internet. This is something people argue about because they don’t know his name, but he wasn’t one to put himself out there.”

Eldee further revealed that his father’s contributions went beyond internet connectivity, as he also provided services to major entities such as Mobil, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and various government agencies.

Reflecting on the advantages of growing up in such an environment, Eldee credited his early access to technology as a key factor in his musical success. “At that time, we had access to technology that wasn’t widely available, and having all that, I had a studio in our house where the music was being produced,” he shared.
