Naira Marley Becomes NDLEA’s Latest Ambassador

Renowned Nigerian artist Naira Marley, known for hit songs like ‘Soapy’ and ‘Mafo,’ is once again in the spotlight, this time for a positive cause. The artist has been unveiled as the newest ambassador for the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign.

Born Azeez Adeshina Fashola, Naira Marley’s career has seen its fair share of controversies and encounters with Nigerian government agencies. Following the release of his hit song ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy’ in 2019, he was apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on the same day. Subsequently, his song ‘Soapy,’ released shortly after his release from prison, delved into the subject of inmates’ sexual habits.

However, as of August 17, 2023, Naira Marley finds himself aligned with the law. The chairman of the NDLEA welcomed the artist as he formally pledged his commitment to the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign.

This significant collaboration was announced by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on their official X profile page. The announcement was also featured on the NDLEA’s official page on the same platform.

NDLEA disclosed that Naira Marley is preparing to release a new song that will serve as a catalyst for advancing the WADA campaign. The artist himself shared a video in which he passionately implored his fans and all Nigerians to refrain from drug abuse and substance misuse. This collaboration marks a commendable step towards utilizing the artist’s influence for a positive social cause.
