Nike Suspends Online Sales in Türkiye Amid New Customs Regulations
Nike, the globally recognized sportswear brand, has announced the suspension of its online sales in Türkiye due to recent changes in the country’s customs regulations. The decision was confirmed in a statement where the company cited the new legislation as the primary reason for halting its online operations.
The regulation, published in the Official Gazette on August 6, has raised the tax on goods imported from European Union countries from 18 per cent to 30 per cent. This increase applies to non-commercial items valued at up to 30 euros and certain pharmaceutical goods valued up to 1,500 euros.
Nike representatives mentioned that they are assessing how this regulatory change will impact the shopping experience in Türkiye. Additionally, they expressed concerns about fulfilling current orders, indicating that delivery guarantees are uncertain under the new conditions.
The brand’s move reflects the broader impact of the tax increase, which is expected to affect various sectors and consumer goods entering Türkiye from the EU.
