Offset Announces Moscow Concert Despite UMG’s Russia Boycott
Offset has revealed plans to perform in Russia next month, despite Universal Music Group (UMG), the parent company of his record label, having ceased all business operations in the country since 2022 due to its invasion of Ukraine.
The former Migos member announced on Instagram that he will take the stage at MTC Live Hall in Moscow on April 18, a performance also confirmed on the venue’s official website.
UMG’s Russia Exit Amid Sanctions
The announcement has drawn attention as UMG was among the major companies that suspended operations in Russia two years ago, aligning with international sanctions imposed in response to the Ukraine conflict.
At the time, UMG issued a statement condemning the invasion and expressing support for humanitarian relief efforts. “We urge an end to the violence in Ukraine as soon as possible,” the company stated, emphasizing its compliance with global sanctions.
UMG’s move coincided with the United States banning Russian oil imports and companies like Shell cutting ties with Russian energy operations, while the European Union escalated sanctions against the country.
Despite these restrictions, Offset’s concert in Moscow is proceeding, with ticket prices ranging from 5,200 to 45,000 rubles.
Offset Calls Out Elon Musk Over Derek Chauvin Post
Beyond his upcoming show, Offset has also made headlines for his criticism of Elon Musk over the billionaire’s apparent support for pardoning Derek Chauvin, the former police officer convicted in George Floyd’s 2020 murder.
Musk reposted a video by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro advocating for Chauvin’s release, adding the caption: “Something to think about.”
Offset responded strongly, calling out the Tesla CEO on Instagram: “Racist b** playing in Black folks’ faces.”** He also vowed to stop driving Tesla vehicles, declaring, “Driving Ferrari, not Tesla.”
