P-Square Splits Again: Paul Okoye Confirms Breakup
Paul Nonso Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy and one-half of the Nigerian music duo P-Square, has confirmed that the group has split once again. In an interview with City FM, Lagos, Rudeboy shared the news, marking the second dissolution of the duo following their initial breakup in 2016 and subsequent reunion in 2021.
Rudeboy explained that while the reunion was meant to produce a series of hit albums, he is now solely focused on his solo career. He elaborated on some of the internal challenges that contributed to the split, including misconceptions about their respective roles within the group. He mentioned that his brother, Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P, had expressed discomfort with being labelled as the dancer while Rudeboy was seen as the singer.
The singer recounted past issues, including creative disagreements, and revealed that the friction became particularly evident after their collaboration with American rapper T.I. on the song “Eja Jo.” Rudeboy noted that the song failed to meet fans’ expectations, accumulating only 3 million views due to the absence of the familiar P-Square sound.
Despite efforts to prevent past mistakes from resurfacing, Rudeboy disclosed that Mr P decided to quit the group, preferring not to make the decision public initially. Rudeboy expressed his frustration, stating, “People will call me the bad person. That’s why I’m speaking up now.”
This breakup marks another chapter in the tumultuous history of one of Africa’s most iconic music duos, leaving fans uncertain about the future of P-Square.
