Patrick Doyle Claims Ireti Doyle Kept His Surname Because He’s More Famous
Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has dismissed claims that his ex-wife, actress Ireti Doyle, is more popular than he is, insisting that she retained his surname post-divorce due to his own long-standing fame and influence.
Speaking during an interview with The Muvmnt Studio, the broadcaster-turned-actor rejected suggestions that his public identity is tied to his ex-wife, stressing that he built a name for himself long before she gained widespread recognition.
“I have been popular since I was 16,” Doyle said. “How long has she been around? I’ve been in the public eye for 45 years, and I’m still here. I was a superstar at 16, a champion debater. I even debated against Yemi Osinbajo.”

He argued that Ireti’s continued use of the surname “Doyle” after their split speaks volumes. “Why is the name Doyle popular? Why didn’t she revert to her maiden name after the marriage ended?” he asked.
Doyle, known for his distinguished career in broadcasting and Nollywood, stated firmly that no one—living or dead—can define him. “My body of work is too solid,” he declared.
The actor married Iretiola Doyle in 1999 following the loss of his first wife to sickle cell anemia. Their separation was confirmed in 2023 after years of public speculation.
