PlayStation 5 Pro Will be Bigger, Faster, and Better Using the Same CPU
Rumours surrounding the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro continue to swirl as leaks provide insight into Sony’s upcoming gaming console refresh. Leaks suggest that while the PlayStation 5 Pro will utilize the same CPU as its predecessor, it will boast significant upgrades in graphics performance and other key areas.
Recent updates reveal that the PlayStation 5 Pro will feature improved ray tracing performance and a new upscaling technology, according to internal Sony documents leaked last month. While the GPU has undergone a full architecture refresh, the CPU remains largely unchanged.
Insiders at Sony have indicated that game developers are being instructed to optimize their titles for the PlayStation 5 Pro, signalling the company’s commitment to enhancing gaming experiences on the new console. Developers are urged to incorporate advanced graphics features like ray tracing, with games offering substantial improvements designated as “Trinity Enhanced” or “PS5 Pro Enhanced.”
The PlayStation 5 Pro will introduce an upgraded GPU and a CPU boost mode, pushing the boundaries of game rendering capabilities. Despite maintaining the same CPU as its predecessor, the console will feature a novel “High-Frequency Mode” to increase clock speeds by 10 per cent, enhancing overall performance.
Furthermore, enhancements to the audio processor (ACV) will deliver a 35 per cent boost in performance, allowing for more complex reverb effects and audio processing. The console’s memory bandwidth will see a 28-percent increase, resulting in more efficient memory architecture compared to the standard model.
Other improvements include a 45 per cent boost in rendering performance, up to four times faster ray tracing, and a new upscaling solution called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). The PlayStation 5 Pro will support up to 8K resolutions, full HDR, and machine learning algorithmic acceleration.
To cater to various consumer preferences, Sony plans to offer the PlayStation 5 Pro with an optional detachable Blu-ray disc drive, similar to the PS5 Slim. Internal storage will also receive a boost from 825GB to 1TB.
While rumours point to a Fall 2024 release, specific details regarding pricing remain elusive. Nevertheless, anticipation continues to build as gamers await further announcements from Sony regarding its next-generation gaming console.
