Qing Madi Says Music Earnings Rival ‘Drug Money’ in Lucrative Industry

Nigerian singer Qing Madi has described the financial rewards in the music industry as extraordinarily high, comparing them to “drug money.”

Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast, the 19-year-old artist said musicians can earn in a single performance what many Nigerians might make over months or even years in regular employment.

According to Qing Madi, her success in music has brought her financial independence, though she deliberately avoids showcasing her wealth publicly. She explained that she does not want money to define how she is perceived by fans or the media.

The singer contrasted the earnings of artists with those of average workers, noting that while many Nigerians earn modest monthly salaries, performers can command multi-million-naira fees for a single show.

Beyond finances, Qing Madi also reflected on the cultural role of music in Nigeria. She suggested that the country’s strong connection to music may be partly due to limited access to mental health support, with many people turning to music for comfort, expression and escape.

Her comments highlight both the economic potential of the entertainment industry and the broader social impact music continues to have in Nigeria.
