Mama G Attributes Nollywood Stars’ Deaths to Carelessness and Negligence
Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has attributed the frequent deaths among Nollywood actors to carelessness and negligence regarding their health.
Speaking in Lagos, Mama G expressed her concerns over the actors’ disregard for proper medical care. She highlighted that many in the industry neglect their health due to their dedication to their work, often opting for quick fixes from chemists rather than seeking professional medical advice.
“When you are doing something you are enjoying, you won’t bother to take care of your health. Once there is life in you, you keep doing what you are doing. And it’s something that pays back on your body,” she said. “Some people are so careless that when they are sick, instead of going to the hospital for a proper check-up, they prefer to visit a chemist or a pharmacy to buy a pain reliever. It’s no longer safe with me.”
Mama G also shared her emotional experience at the funeral of late comic actor John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu, which took place last month in his hometown in Enugu State. She broke down in tears when she realized he was truly gone forever, a moment that deeply affected her.
“At that moment, I broke down in tears. It’s not because I was expecting him to respond, but it was when I realized that this man is gone forever,” she recalled.
She urged her colleagues to prioritize regular medical check-ups and avoid habits detrimental to their health. Reflecting on her own life, Mama G shared her spiritual journey, describing a transformative encounter with God in 2016 that led her to become an evangelist.
“It was in 2016 when God called me to work for Him. Then, I used to be a teacher in the church, but I didn’t climb the pulpit. It’s not something I can explain,” she recounted. “God asked me to separate myself so that He wants to talk with me. I thought somebody was talking to me, but I discovered it was a voice coming from somewhere.”
This experience, she explained, changed her life and directed her towards a path of evangelism, as she felt compelled to share her testimony and encourage others to take better care of their health and spirituality.
Mama G’s heartfelt message serves as a wake-up call to Nollywood actors and the wider community, emphasizing the importance of health and well-being amidst the demands of their careers.
