Trey Songz Dodges $10M Lawsuit as Alleged Victim’s Case Dismissed Over Non-Response

In a recent legal development, Trey Songz has emerged unscathed from a potential $10 million sexual assault lawsuit, as the case against the R&B singer was dismissed due to the alleged victim’s failure to respond in a timely manner.

TMZ obtained a copy of the judge’s order to dismiss, filed on Friday (January 26), citing the defendant—referred to as “Jane Doe” in court documents—as the reason for the dismissal. The dismissal raises questions about whether the alleged victim has the opportunity to refile her lawsuit or if it has been permanently dismissed.

The lawsuit was initially filed in June of the previous year, with Jane Doe accusing Trey Songz of exposing her breasts at a pool party at a Connecticut casino in 2013. The legal documents, obtained by Radar Online in September, revealed Songz’s defense arguing that the case had surpassed the statute of limitations, which is typically three years.

The woman claimed the alleged assault occurred in August 2013 at the Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut, demanding $10 million for sexual battery and assault. Her claims included allegations that Trey Songz forcibly grabbed and exposed her breast at the pool party after she attempted to take a photo with the singer.

A video captured by a friend of the accuser, sent to TMZ, showed Songz (real name Tremaine Neverson) grabbing the accuser’s bathing suit top, dropping it, and exposing her breast. The court documents detailed a degrading chant allegedly made by Songz after the assault.

The lawsuit also named Kevin Liles, Atlantic Records, and Trey Songz’s production company, holding them responsible for negligence in their supervision of the artist.

While Jane Doe reportedly demanded $5 million from Songz to settle the case, he refused the offer. The dismissal of this case follows a pattern for Trey Songz, as he faced another sexual assault lawsuit in November 2022, which was dropped due to the statute of limitations.

In that case, a woman using the alias Jane Doe filed a complaint earlier in the year, alleging that Trey Songz, initially in a consensual relationship, turned into a “savage rapist” in March 2016. The plaintiff sought $20 million in damages, but the case was thrown out by Trey Songz’s legal team, citing the California statute of limitations lasting only two years.
