‘Queen Sugar’ Final-Season Trailer Debuts Ahead of September Premiere on OWN | Watch Trailer

Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) has released the Season 7 trailer for Queen Sugar, the drama series that is wrapping its run with a final 13 episodes beginning September 6, as reported by Deadline.

Ava DuVernay, who created the series and directed the pilot, will also direct the series finale of the show, which in Season 7 picks up six months after Ralph Angel and Darla welcomed their baby girl to the world.

Based on Natalie Baszile’s 2014 novel, Queen Sugar focuses on the trio of Bordelon siblings — played by Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Rutina Wesley and Kofi Siriboe — and their extended family in the fictional Louisiana community of St. Josephine.

Tina Lifford, Nicholas L. Ashe, Omar Dorsey, Bianca Lawson and Amirah Vann also star.

The series premiered in 2016 and DuVernay pledged to exclusively hire women directors; across its 88 episodes, the show has employed 42 women to direct.

Queen Sugar is produced for OWN by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks and Harpo Films in association with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers are DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey, Paul Garnes and Shaz Bennett.
