Black Adam

Real Reason Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Fought For Black Adam to Have its Stand-Alone Movie

Black Adam and “Shazam! were originally designed to be in the same movie, until Hollywood actor, Dwayne Johnson intervened to change the storyline and save his next character, where he will debut as a superhero, a character that the actor and former wrestler has always had on his radar, as reported by Marca.

Both Black Adam and Shazam Deserved a Chance to Shine

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor explained that he used his social media to get Warner Bros. to make two movies instead of one, so he could star in his first film in a franchise of comic book characters, as well as give both superheroes a better chance to shine.

Hurting the Black Adam Character

He said that “When we got the first draft of the movie, it was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam! That is, two origin stories in one movie. That was the goal, so it wasn’t a complete surprise. But when I read it, I knew in my gut, ‘We can’t do this movie like that. We’d be doing incredible damage to Black Adam, but it would have been fine for Shazam!”

He added, “It’s valid to have two converging origin stories in one movie, but it’s not good for Black Adam.”

The Rock Spoke to Warner Bros. Directly

From that moment, he explained that he began his struggle to convince Warner Bros. that his idea was better. Although, he also acknowledged that the script was so good that it was a difficult task to change it:

“I made a phone call. I said, ‘I’ve got to share my thoughts here. It’s very unpopular… Because everyone thought, ‘Hey, this script is great, let’s make this movie.’ I said, ‘I really think you should do Shazam! Make that movie on its own in whatever tone you want to. And I think we should also split this up,'” he noted.

However, he stuck to his argument that fans were eager to see this version of the anti-hero and he became the first Black Adam as there has never been another human version of the character depicted in a movie.
