Rema Criticizes Dreamville Festival for Sound Issues During Performance

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema expressed frustration with the organizers of J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival due to significant sound problems during his set.

The two-day festival, held on Saturday (April 6) and Sunday (April 7) at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, boasted a star-studded lineup featuring renowned artists such as Nicki Minaj, ScHoolboy Q, Sexyy Red, Lil Yachty, Rae Sremmurd, and many others.

Rema took the stage on the second day but encountered persistent microphone issues, particularly during his performance of his hit song “Calm Down.”

Addressing the audience, he voiced his frustration, stating, “These sound issues are messing up my whole performance. I’m seriously not feeling this shit at all. It’s too messed up. I’m representing Africa. This is too messed up. So the sound cannot be perfect for every artist that gets on this stage and Africa is in the house and y’all messing shit up?”

Despite his attempts to persevere, the ongoing technical difficulties prompted Rema to cut short his set and exit the stage.

Meanwhile, elsewhere at the 2024 Dreamville Festival, rapper 50 Cent utilized his stage time to engage in his recent trend of poking fun at Diddy and the ongoing federal investigation involving him.

Amid audible laughter from the crowd, 50 Cent humorously remarked, “I love you brother, no P. Diddy. I love you… even if you a sex worker.”

The rapper’s unexpected appearance at the festival came as a result of Chris Brown’s last-minute withdrawal due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

Preceding the festival, J. Cole received a tribute in the form of a new mural in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Created by New York-based graffiti artist Andaluz The Artist, the mural features a larger-than-life portrait of the rapper alongside the phrase “Welcome to Fayetteville,” adorned with images symbolizing the city’s history and Cole’s Dreamville label.

Andaluz shared the completed mural in a video on Instagram, capturing the essence of J. Cole’s roots just days before the festival.
