Rema’s ‘Calm Down Remix’ Becomes First Afrobeats Song to Surpass 1 Billion Views on YouTube

Nigerian artist Rema has achieved a historic milestone, with his hit song “Calm Down Remix,” featuring American pop star Selena Gomez, becoming the first Afrobeats track to reach 1 billion views on YouTube.

As verified by DAILY POST, the music video, hosted on Gomez’s YouTube channel, crossed the 1-billion-view mark two years after its release, marking a significant moment for Nigerian music on the global stage. This achievement makes it the first Nigerian song to reach this milestone and the fastest African song to hit a billion views on the platform.

The original version of “Calm Down” has also garnered over 619 million views on YouTube, while the remix version continues to make waves internationally.

Additionally, in August last year, “Calm Down Remix” made history as the first African song to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify. It currently boasts over 1.5 billion Spotify streams, further establishing Rema’s influence in the global music industry. This achievement highlights the growing reach and popularity of Afrobeats worldwide.
