Rihanna Reveals Super Bowl Pregnancy Announcement Was Unplanned During Puma Launch

Global superstar Rihanna, who made headlines with her surprise pregnancy announcement during the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in February, recently disclosed that the revealing moment was entirely unplanned. Speaking on the red carpet at the launch of her latest Puma collection on Monday (December 18), the mother of two clarified that the unexpected reveal was a result of her growing belly.

Laughing off the unplanned revelation, Rihanna shared, “Here’s the thing – I did what I had to do, right? My jumper couldn’t zip up. No one knew I was pregnant, I just told my stylist to make sure it’s stretchy. So the underarm was stretchy and this was baggy, but you know, the zip. It just stopped right there, so it had to be what it had to be!”

Parris Goebel, the choreographer behind the historic halftime show, had previously echoed a similar sentiment shortly after the event, stating that Rihanna had not initially planned to make a pregnancy reveal. The intention was to wear something loose-fitting that wouldn’t prominently show her baby bump, but as the show approached, it became evident that she was visibly pregnant.

Rihanna’s halftime performance marked her return to the stage after nearly five years, and it became the most-watched halftime show in history, attracting nearly 121.017 million viewers on February 12.

Fast forward to August 3, just under six months later, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their second child together, a son named Riot Rose Mayers. The couple had previously kept the name of their first son, born on May 13, 2022, a secret for almost a year, revealing it just ahead of his first birthday. Their firstborn, RZA, is slightly over a year older than his baby brother.

In an interview with British Vogue back in February, Rihanna expressed her openness to expanding their family further, saying, “Listen, I’m down for whatever. My wish would be I would like to have more kids, but whatever God wants for me, I’m here.”

Reflecting on motherhood, she added, “We’re best friends with a baby. We have to be on the same page, but we’ve always kind of had that in our relationship. Everything changes when you have a baby, but I wouldn’t say it’s done anything but made us closer. The second Rocky makes eye contact with [RZA], he is on fire. The whole thing they say about sons and moms, it’s a myth. Sons and fathers are crazy. I realized that the validation that you really need as a boy is from your father.”
