‘Colleagues, Industry Players Backstabbing Me’ – Rapper Vector Tha Viper Cries Out

Renowned Nigerian hip-hop artist Olanrewaju David Ogunmefun, popularly known as Vector Tha Viper, has candidly discussed the challenges he faces within the music industry, shedding light on the attitudes of some of his colleagues and music executives towards him. The ‘King Kong’ crooner revealed that he has experienced backstabbing and attempts to tarnish his brand abroad, often being labelled as “stubborn” and “troublesome” due to his unwavering principles and refusal to compromise.

Vector shared his thoughts on his experiences through his social media platform, addressing the misconceptions surrounding his career. He expressed amusement at the fact that individuals who backstab him often act friendly and amicable in his presence.

In his post, Vector remarked, “I’ve been holding back a lot. If you think about it, I am the perfect example of someone they thought would be ‘classist’ because I rap in English and I should ‘leave all these local affiliations.’ But you don’t mind when Jay-Z represents Bed Stuyvesant or Brooklyn.”

He went on to emphasize his self-awareness, mentioning how he has been labelled as “stubborn” because he doesn’t bow to anyone. He recounted an incident where an ex-affiliate of one of his fellow artists in the US commented on his non-conformist nature, stating, “I see why they were uncomfortable about you; you don’t bow to anyone.”

Vector also highlighted a situation where people in the industry criticized him for his style of rap, referring to it as “trouble rap.” However, he revealed that an incident in Ghana changed perceptions when a blogger, after initially doubting his talent, was impressed by his poetic lyrics and reached out to encourage him.

The rapper concluded by expressing his amusement at the fact that individuals who engage in backstabbing tend to act warmly when they encounter him in person, leaving him puzzled as to why they fear someone who exudes positivity and a friendly demeanour.

Vector Tha Viper’s insights offer a glimpse into the complex dynamics of the music industry, where artists sometimes face challenges related to reputation, misperceptions, and the delicate balance between authenticity and industry expectations.
