Tiwa Savage Opens Up About Success, Aging, and Relationships on ‘The Receipts Podcast’
Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage recently featured on the latest episode of The Receipts Podcast, hosted by UK-based podcaster Tolani Soneye. The candid conversation delved into Tiwa’s reflections on success, age-shaming, relationships, and her inspiring journey as a woman in her 40s.
Tiwa Savage spoke about achieving success later in life, emphasising that her journey serves as motivation for others. Despite facing criticism over her age and appearance, she remains confident and unbothered.
“They try so hard to age-shame me. Every day, they say, ‘a woman of your age still wearing a bikini.’ But I have the body. When my son grows up, he will see this and be proud of me. He will say, ‘My mum is a powerful and beautiful woman,’” Tiwa stated, adding that God’s timing for her success was intentional.
She explained how her achievements inspire younger women, saying, “I used to wonder why I didn’t become successful in my 20s. But I realised it’s for a purpose—to show women that starting in your 30s doesn’t mean it’s too late.”
In a rare moment of vulnerability, Tiwa also discussed her relationships, revealing she has never left a partner solely for cheating. Instead, she prioritised her emotional well-being, citing reasons like drug abuse, dishonesty, and emotional neglect as dealbreakers.
“I have never left a man because he cheated. But for reasons like drug abuse, emotional abuse, being ghosted, or stealing. I believe in monogamy, but I don’t even think I’ve ever had an orgasm,” she revealed.
The episode showcased The Receipts Podcast’s signature format of open and unfiltered discussions. Tolani Soneye, known for her work with BuzzFeed and the BBC, created a warm and supportive space for Tiwa Savage to share her truth.
Notably, Tolani is the younger sister of Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.).
The thought-provoking interview has drawn widespread attention, with fans praising Tiwa Savage for her honesty and resilience, further cementing her status as a role model for women navigating success, self-confidence, and personal growth.
