Rubi Rose Applauded for Honesty About Not Writing Her Own Raps
Rapper and model Rubi Rose has earned widespread commendation for her candidness about not writing her own lyrics. During an upcoming episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Rose openly admitted to relying on writers for her music, a revelation that was met with applause from the hosts.
In a moment of unfiltered honesty, Rose responded with a simple “No” when asked if she penned her own bars. Her straightforwardness drew applause from Joe Budden and his team after a brief pause. When further questioned about her plans to develop her writing skills, the 26-year-old clarified that she was content with her current setup.
“People know how to make shit sound cool, y’know?” Rose explained, referring to those who assist her. “Everybody uses writers, though, like realistically. Like when people say they don’t — I don’t know, maybe you [Joe Budden] really don’t, but like literally, I feel like everybody uses writers.”
This discussion comes in the wake of rumours earlier this year alleging that Kendrick Lamar used a ghostwriter for his 2022 track “N95.” An alleged demo of the song, performed by CJ Francis IV, surfaced online, suggesting that Francis had contributed to the song without receiving credit. However, Francis denied any involvement, stating on Instagram that he had nothing to do with “N95” and refuting the claims that he was a ghostwriter for Lamar.
A community note on the original social media post and a Reddit thread further debunked the rumours, explaining that “N95” was a collaboration between Lamar and Baby Keem, developed over several years and finalized in 2022.
Rubi Rose’s openness about her use of writers contrasts with the secrecy often surrounding ghostwriting in the music industry, earning her respect for her transparency.
