Ryan Gosling Has a Hilarious Response to Those Who Say He’s ‘Too Old’ to Play Ken in ‘Barbie’ Movie

Ryan Gosling defends his role as Ken in the upcoming “Barbie” movie, addressing critics who claim he is “too old” for the part. In an interview with GQ, Gosling responded to the social media debate that arose when the movie trailer was released in April.

Gosling dismisses the criticism, stating, “If people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with.”

He finds the discourse amusing, considering that for the past 60 years, Ken’s role has been associated with the beach, and nobody seemed to mind. He points out the hypocrisy of suddenly caring about Ken’s character when no one truly cared before.

However, Gosling emphasizes his own investment in the role, jokingly referring to himself as Ken’s “representative.”

He explains that he was drawn to the opportunity to be part of a film that showcases strong female characters. The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, stars Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, America Ferrera, and many others.

Gosling also shares how his two daughters, whom he raises with his partner Eva Mendes, influenced his decision to take on the role. Recounting a memorable incident where he found his daughter’s Ken doll face down in the mud next to a squished lemon, Gosling felt compelled to tell Ken’s story.

The “Barbie” movie, featuring Gosling as Ken, is set to hit theaters on July 21.
