Tory Lanez’s Bail Motion Yet to be Filed as Lawyer Lives the High Life in Italy

Tory Lanez’s legal situation has taken an unexpected turn as his lawyer, Jose Baez, who previously pledged to file a motion to secure the rapper’s release from jail after his sentencing, has yet to initiate the process. Nearly three weeks after Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, the promised motion remains pending.

Jose Baez, renowned for his defence of Casey Anthony in a high-profile trial, had assured Tory Lanez’s supporters that he would take prompt action to pursue bail for the rapper during the appeal of his convictions. However, no such motion has been filed to date, leaving some questioning the status and priority of the legal manoeuvre.

Meghann Cuniff, an avid follower of the case, took to Twitter to highlight the delay and offer insight into Baez’s activities. Cuniff noted that while Baez had committed to filing the bail motion, he appeared to be posting Instagram stories from Italy’s Lake Garda, situated near Milan in the northern part of the country.

Tory Lanez, whose birth name is Daystar Peterson, was found guilty on all three counts related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in December 2022. Facing a potential maximum sentence of 22 years in prison along with the possibility of deportation to Canada, his native country, Tory’s legal team aimed for a shorter sentence. Prosecutors sought a 13-year term, while the rapper’s lawyers advocated for a three-year sentence.

During his sentencing hearing, which spanned two days, Tory Lanez addressed the court, expressing continued care for Megan Thee Stallion and acknowledging their shared experience of losing their mothers. He expressed remorse for his actions and remarks prior to the shooting, acknowledging their immaturity.

Jose Baez, in defence of his client, emphasized Lanez’s race and the implications of “sending another Black man” to prison. However, Judge David Herriford, who also belongs to the Black community, clarified that the ethnicity of the parties did not influence his 10-year sentencing decision. Judge Herriford took into account Lanez’s post-shooting behaviour, including social media activity and music releases directed at Megan Thee Stallion, as a significant aggravating factor in the case.

As the legal proceedings continue to unfold, the delay in filing the promised bail motion raises questions about the next steps in Tory Lanez’s legal battle and the impact it may have on his appeal process.
