Ryan Taylor Defends Controversial Comments on DJ Cuppy Amid Backlash from Nigerians
British boxer Ryan Taylor has responded to criticism from Nigerians following controversial comments he made about his ex-fiancée, Nigerian DJ and philanthropist Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy.
The controversy began after Taylor shared a Father’s Day post on Instagram featuring a photo of himself and his daughter. In the caption, he expressed his wish to help end racism by having mixed-race children.
A comment under the post compared his daughter’s appearance to that of DJ Cuppy, prompting Taylor to respond with a dismissive remark about the Nigerian entertainer. He wrote:
“She wasn’t enough of a woman to even fathom creating such a beautiful creation like mine. Please leave me and don’t come back.”

The comment sparked backlash, particularly from Nigerian social media users, many of whom accused Taylor of disrespecting Cuppy.
In a follow-up post addressing the criticism, Taylor defended his statement, saying he has the right to speak his mind. He also accused Nigerians of targeting both him and his current partner, adding that he would continue to stand up for his family.
“Today is a special day. Nigerians gotta chill out. You come for the mother of my child and think I won’t back it? Don’t come on my page talking sht and cry when I speak,” he said. “I NEVER signed the Contract. I will always say what I want and do what is right for me or my family. I haven’t said sht yet. Everyone gotta chill.”
Taylor and DJ Cuppy were previously engaged but ended their relationship quietly in 2023.
