Samsung Soundbar Users Report Widespread Issues After Faulty Firmware Update
Samsung’s flagship HW-Q990D soundbar has become unusable for many customers following a problematic firmware update released this week. Reports flooding Samsung’s community forums, Reddit, and AVSForum indicate that the update has caused serious malfunctions, with users across the United States, Austria, the Philippines, Malaysia, and other countries experiencing similar issues.
Affected users report that their soundbars have become unresponsive, with factory reset attempts failing and the Samsung SmartThings app unable to detect the device. Although the units still power on, they appear to freeze on the TV eARC input and produce no sound.
The issue is linked to firmware version 1020.7, which was automatically installed on many devices. While most complaints involve the Q990D model, some users have reported similar problems with other Samsung soundbars, including the HW-Q800D and HW-S801D.
Samsung has yet to release an official statement, but some customers have been advised to send their soundbars in for repair. However, users are hoping for a software fix rather than a hardware replacement. Until the issue is resolved, Samsung soundbar owners may want to disable automatic updates to avoid potential disruptions.
