Selena Gomez, ‘The Bear’, ‘Shogun’ Make History with Record-Breaking Emmy Nominations

The 76th Emmy nominations announced on Wednesday saw Selena Gomez, the comedy series ‘The Bear,’ and the drama series ‘Shogun’ making waves with record-breaking nods.

Selena Gomez received her first-ever Emmy nomination for her acting, earning a spot in the Best Actress in a Comedy Series category for her role as Mabel in ‘Only Murders In The Building.’ Additionally, Gomez set a new milestone as the most Emmy-nominated Latina producer, receiving a nomination for Best Comedy Series for her work as an executive producer on the same show. Previously, she had been nominated twice in the Outstanding Comedy Series category (2022-2023) for her contributions to the series.

‘The Bear’ garnered significant attention by breaking the record for the most nominations in a single year for a comedy series, amassing 23 nominations. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by ’30 Rock,’ which had 22 nominations in 2009.

In the drama category, ‘Shogun’ led the pack with an impressive 25 nominations.

Among the standout nominations was Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri, who was recognized in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category. She will compete against notable actresses such as Quinta Brunson, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Jean Smart, and Selena Gomez.

Selena Gomez expressed her excitement about her nominations on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself with a congratulatory cake. “I’m honored and insanely grateful for this. Thank you @onlymurdershulu for giving me Mabel,” she wrote.

The 2024 Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
