Seun Kuti Clarifies Stance on Colonialism, Says He’s Not Against European People
Renowned Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has clarified his position on European colonialism, emphasizing that his criticism is directed at the historical system of imperialism, not at European people.
The Afrobeat artist, known for his outspoken views on social justice and corruption, addressed the topic in a recent Instagram post, highlighting the importance of fairness and unity in creating a better world.
“I’m against European colonisation and imperialism, but that does not mean I’m against European people,” Kuti wrote. “Many Europeans have been our allies in the fight against greed and unfair systems, working to make the world a fairer place for everyone.”
He further stressed that opposing colonialism should not be conflated with animosity towards individuals. “Being against colonisation does not mean being against Europeans. Many have stood with us in the fight for justice and fairness,” he added.
Seun Kuti’s comments aim to dispel misconceptions about his stance while reinforcing the need for global solidarity in addressing systemic inequities.
