Former Premier League goalkeeper and current ESPN commentator, Shaka Hislop, has addressed the public for the first time since fainting during a live broadcast in Los Angeles on Sunday.

In a video shared on social media, the 54-year-old London native appeared in good spirits and smiling as he referred to the incident as “awkward” and recounted the whirlwind of the past 24 hours. While he did not provide specific details about the cause of his collapse prior to the AC Milan-Real Madrid friendly at the Rose Bowl, Hislop assured viewers that he is feeling well and expressed gratitude for the support he has received.

Hislop expressed his thankfulness to his loved ones, family, friends, and those who reached out to him after the incident. He also acknowledged the ESPN family, camera operators, and medical staff at the Rose Bowl for their prompt response and care.

During the live broadcast on Sunday, Hislop was discussing Kylian Mbappé when he suddenly wobbled and fell forward, colliding with his broadcast partner, Dan Thomas. Thomas later assured fans at halftime that Hislop was awake, responsive, and a bit embarrassed.

Concerns about his well-being flooded social media immediately after the incident, with former clubs and fans expressing their support and well-wishes. Hislop, who was born in England in 1969, also played for Trinidad and Tobago’s national team during his career, starting with Reading in 1992 and ending with MLS side FC Dallas. He was notably part of the Newcastle team that fiercely competed against Manchester United in the 1995-96 season title race.
