Simi Cautions Fans Against Calling Her Daughter ‘Duduke’
Nigerian music star Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to fans to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke” – a name inspired by her 2020 hit single.
The singer, who is married to fellow artist Adekunle Gold, addressed the issue in a recent chat with media personality VJ Adams. While acknowledging that the nickname likely stems from affection, Simi made it clear that she does not appreciate the mislabeling.
“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like,” she said. “That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything.”
Simi explained that Duduke was simply a sound she used in the song to mimic the rhythm of a heartbeat, symbolising her excitement and anticipation while pregnant.
“It was onomatopoeia – the sound of my heart beating. ‘Duduke, duduke.’ That’s all it was. My heart beating like a drum for my unborn child,” she clarified.
While the singer acknowledged that the name is often used with good intentions, she urged fans to use her daughter’s actual name instead.
“Stop calling my child Duduke,” she added with a laugh. “But I get it – it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react harshly.”
Simi and Adekunle Gold welcomed Adejare in June 2020, shortly after the release of “Duduke,” a track that quickly became an anthem for expectant mothers across Nigeria.
