Lil Wayne Unveils Star-Studded Lineup for Tha Carter 6, Teases Album With His Sons

Lil Wayne has confirmed a June 6 release date for his highly anticipated album Tha Carter 6 – and it’s packed with unexpected collaborations, major producers, and even a family affair.

In a new Rolling Stone cover story, the 42-year-old rapper reveals that the album will feature appearances from a wide range of artists including pop star Miley Cyrus, U2 frontman Bono, opera legend Andrea Bocelli, rapper Machine Gun Kelly, dancehall icon Elephant Man, and his 15-year-old son Kameron.

Wayne also teased contributions from renowned producers like Wheezy and Wyclef Jean, with Kanye West potentially lending a hand. Wyclef, in particular, is reportedly overseeing much of the project and has formed a loose collective with Wayne called The Gumbo, which includes New Orleans natives Jon Batiste, Ledisi, PJ Morton, and Trombone Shorty.

“If there’s one thing about this album that’s different,” Wayne said, “it’s me approaching it like, ‘Man, what would I sound like on something with such and such?’”

The Young Money founder also hinted at a potential follow-up to his and Birdman’s 2006 collaborative album Like Father, Like Son—only this time with his three sons, Kameron, Dwayne III, and Neal, all of whom are dabbling in music.

Wayne addressed a handful of other headline-making topics during the interview, including his feelings about being passed over for this year’s Super Bowl halftime show in his hometown of New Orleans—a gig that went to Kendrick Lamar.

Though initially disappointed, Wayne said he reached out to Lamar directly to offer encouragement and clear the air. “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it [anymore]. It was perfect,” he said of his changed stance on performing at the Super Bowl in the future.

The rapper also laughed off speculation around social media posts that some thought were digs at Lamar and acknowledged he wasn’t even aware he had once performed a Kendrick diss track—“Not Like Us”—onstage.

“I ain’t want my dude to be mad at me,” Wayne joked. “I didn’t even know it was Kendrick!”

Wayne’s notorious disconnection from the rap world was further evidenced when he admitted to never having heard Watch the Throne, the 2011 joint album by JAY-Z and Kanye West. “They did an album?” he asked before his team played him songs to jog his memory.

He also confessed to not knowing who rapper Sexyy Red was, despite recently collaborating with her on a track featuring GloRilla and Tyler, The Creator. “Red who? Sexyy what?” he laughed, crediting Tyler with reminding him they’d all been at a fashion show together.

Touching on his controversial 2020 photo with Donald Trump, Wayne brushed off any backlash. “F–k no, I don’t care about no backlash for nothin’ I do, you know me, man,” he said. “My mama woulda been mad if I ain’t smile.”

As for any assumptions that he’s politically aligned with Trump, Wayne remained unmoved. “I don’t give a f–k about that type of sh-t,” he said with a smirk. “Tell ’em my d–k big though.”

With Tha Carter 6 on the horizon and his sons stepping into the spotlight, Lil Wayne’s next era appears to be one marked by bold choices, surprising alliances, and an unapologetic stance on everything from fatherhood to fame.
