Sony Cancels Two PlayStation Live-Service Games, Including a God of War Project

Sony has reportedly cancelled two unannounced PlayStation live-service games, including a God of War title in development at Bluepoint Games and another project by Bend Studio. The decision followed a “recent review,” with Sony reiterating its commitment to supporting both single-player and multiplayer game development.

The revelation came through a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who confirmed on social media that Bluepoint’s shelved game was intended to be a live-service title based on the God of War franchise. Details about the cancelled Bend Studio project remain unclear, though the studio was reportedly working on an AAA live-service game with a military sci-fi theme.

In response to the cancellations, Sony stated that both Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games remain integral parts of the PlayStation Studios family. “We are working closely with each studio to determine their next projects,” the company noted.

This marks the latest in a series of live-service titles Sony has discontinued in recent years as it continues to refine its approach to this segment of the gaming market.

Images purportedly linked to Bend Studio’s cancelled project surfaced online in December, reportedly obtained from a leaked Google Drive. While PlayStation issued DMCA takedown notices for the images, the leaks have yet to provide a comprehensive picture of what the project entailed.

While details about the cancelled God of War live-service game are sparse, fans are left to imagine what such a title could have offered to the franchise.
