Speed Darlington Defies NAPTIP After Being Declared Wanted Over Alleged Rape and Cyberbullying

Controversial Nigerian musician Speed Darlington has responded defiantly after being declared wanted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.

The agency reportedly took action after the singer shared a video on social media in which he appeared to admit to having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. Despite being invited by NAPTIP for questioning, Speed Darlington failed to appear, prompting the agency to publish a public notice declaring him wanted.

In a new Instagram video posted Monday, the U.S.-based artist dismissed the agency’s notice and openly refused to honour their summons. “I’m not coming,” he declared. “I have not committed any crime. Irresponsible talk is not a crime.”

He went further to challenge the legitimacy of the allegations, demanding that NAPTIP present concrete evidence and identify a formal complainant. He accused the agency of chasing clout and attempting to use his name to gain public attention.

“You want to use me to trend and show Nigerians that you’re doing your job. I know this psychological mind game,” he said, insisting the entire situation was being blown out of proportion due to online pressure.

Speed Darlington, known for his provocative social media presence, even threatened legal action against NAPTIP for defamation. He argued that his comments were made for shock value and social media attention, not as confessions to a crime.

He also demanded payment of ₦2.5 million for what he termed an “appearance fee” if the agency expected him to show up, adding that he would require round-trip tickets for himself and his personal assistant.

The musician dismissed the allegation of cyberstalking, asking, “Who did I stalk? Did I post anyone? Did I mention names?” and questioned the basis for the rape accusation, stating, “Where is the evidence?”

As of now, NAPTIP has not issued a public response to his video, but the case continues to stir widespread public concern and debate over the role of social media in triggering criminal investigations.
