Footlong cookies have returned to Subway's menus nationwide

Subway is Bringing Back the Footlong Cookie After it Disappeared for Four Months

Subway has announced the much-anticipated return of its oversized footlong chocolate chip cookie, which had been absent from the menu for the past four months. The beloved cookie, part of Subway’s new Sidekick lineup, was originally introduced in January but was quickly pulled from most restaurants due to overwhelming demand.

The footlong cookie’s comeback is a key element in Subway’s broader strategy to revitalize its brand. Alongside the cookie, the Sidekick lineup includes popular items like the Cinnabon churro and Auntie Anne’s soft pretzel, both of which remained available during the cookie’s hiatus. Since its initial launch, Subway has sold over 5 million footlong cookies.

In addition to expanding its Sidekick lineup, Subway has made several strategic changes to stay competitive. These include enhancing menu customization, promoting orders through its app, increasing its international footprint, and introducing freshly sliced meats, a significant shift from its previous pre-sliced cold cuts.

“The Footlong Cookie has delighted millions of Americans since their first bites in January, sparking unprecedented demand over the last several months,” said Paul Fabre, Subway’s senior vice president of culinary and innovation, in a press release. He noted that Subway has worked diligently to replenish the supply and ensure the cookie is available in all ordering platforms.

Effective immediately, the footlong cookie can be ordered through Subway’s website, app, and third-party delivery services like DoorDash and Uber Eats, as well as in-person at Subway locations.

Subway’s need for a boost is apparent, as the chain has been closing locations, with over 400 U.S. restaurants shutting down last year. Subway ended the year with 20,133 locations, the fewest since 2005. The return of the footlong cookie aims to reinvigorate customer interest and support Subway’s ongoing efforts to enhance its menu and services.
