Sylvester Madu Clears the Air on Viral Market Video, Denies Selling Okrika
Veteran Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu has debunked rumours that he sells okrika (second-hand clothes), following the circulation of a viral video that showed him selling clothes in a market in Enugu.
In a recent interview with media personality Patience Yisa, Madu, popularly known for his action roles, addressed the controversy, clarifying that the clothes he was seen selling were brand new and imported from the United States.
“Just because the clothes were on the floor doesn’t mean they were okrika,” he explained. “I don’t sell second-hand clothes. I import new items and have several shops that my workers manage.”
The actor added that he often joins in selling his merchandise because he dislikes being idle and believes in staying involved in his business.
“I don’t do ‘big man’ things,” he said. “I’ve been running this business for over 30 years. I have boys selling for me, but I also go to the field myself to monitor everything.”
Madu’s comments come in response to social media reactions that followed the video, with many speculating that he had fallen on hard times. His clarification sets the record straight, highlighting his entrepreneurial background and hands-on approach to business.
