Tesla Recalls 27,000 Cybertrucks Over Rearview Camera Delay

Tesla has issued a recall for approximately 27,000 Cybertrucks due to a rearview camera malfunction that could increase the risk of accidents. The issue, identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involves a delay of up to 8 seconds before the rearview camera image appears on the dashboard when the vehicle is put into reverse. This exceeds the 2-second limit mandated by U.S. federal safety regulations.

In response, Tesla has provided a free over-the-air software update to resolve the problem. The NHTSA noted that drivers could still safely reverse the vehicle by performing a shoulder check and using their mirrors.

This marks the fifth recall for the electric truck since its launch last year. Earlier recalls included issues with the truck’s oversized single windshield wiper, loose plastic trim, and a stuck accelerator pedal. A software update in January also addressed warning light legibility concerns across 2.2 million Tesla vehicles, including Cybertrucks.

Despite the recalls, Tesla reported an increase in global sales, delivering nearly 463,000 vehicles in the third quarter of 2024, marking a 6% rise compared to the same period last year. However, the company’s year-to-date sales still lag behind figures from 2023.
