Afida Turner

Tina Turner’s Daughter-in-Law Planning Baby With Late Husband’s Sperm

Afida Turner, the singer and actress who was married to Tina Turner’s son Ronnie Turner for 15 years until his passing in December, has announced her intention to have a baby using Ronnie’s frozen sperm. Ronnie passed away at the age of 62 after battling colon cancer, leaving behind a dream that Afida now hopes to fulfil by becoming a first-time mother at the age of 46.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Afida shared her plans, saying, “I’m going to have Ronnie’s baby! If I can. I’m 46. But we’ll see…” She disclosed that her husband had frozen his sperm as a birthday gift for her, and now she is determined to undergo in-vitro fertilization (IVF) using both Ronnie’s sperm and her own frozen eggs. Afida hopes to achieve pregnancy before her 47th birthday in December of this year.

Despite the sadness of raising a child without Ronnie, Afida expressed her excitement about having a little one who resembles her late husband, saying, “At least I will have a little one that looks like Ronnie. A monster like me and him, can you imagine?…” She added, “Ronnie left me a very nice gift.”

The past year has been fraught with grief for Afida, losing Ronnie and then her mother-in-law, Tina Turner, just six months later. The idea of having a new baby brings hope and comfort to her during these difficult times.

Reflecting on her profound loss, Afida revealed, “It’s a punishment. Morning and night, I’m crying and screaming… It is very difficult for me because people only see the music or the pictures, but I go back home and scream the names of my loved ones. [That pain] will never go away. I’m still very depressed and thinking about the very bad, dark, bad stuff. You don’t want to go through this in life. You have to talk to God, otherwise, you go nuts and kill yourself. I’m suffering, and my heart is destroyed. I’m trying not to lose my mind.”

Tina Turner, the legendary singer, passed away in May at the age of 83 after battling various health issues. Ronnie was one of her four sons, and he was her only child with Ike Turner. Despite the immense sorrow Afida has experienced, she holds on to the hope that welcoming a child into the world will bring her a sense of solace and happiness.
