Include Messages in Your Music – Ruggedman Charges Afrobeats Singers

Veteran rapper, Michael Ugochukwu Steven, popularly known as Ruggedman, has expressed his concern over the lack of meaningful messages in Nigerian music today.

The renowned artist, in a recent interview with Hip TV, pointed out that many Afrobeats singers prioritize beats over lyrical content, leading to a dearth of conscious music in the industry.

Addressing the new generation of Nigerian musicians, Ruggedman urged them to infuse more consciousness into their music and use their platforms to promote positive messages.

He emphasized that not every artist should focus solely on creating danceable tunes, as there is a need for diversity in the themes and content presented through music.

Acknowledging the global popularity of Afrobeats, the rapper stressed the immense influence Nigerian artists wield, with millions of listeners, including non-Nigerians, tuning in to Nigerian music.

Ruggedman expressed his hope that prominent artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, and Rema, among others, would recognize the power they have through their music and leverage their positions to spread messages of peace, creativity, and positivity.

He underlined the potential impact conscious music could have on millions of people, encouraging artists to use their voices to inspire and create awareness about relevant social issues.

Ruggedman’s call for more meaningful messages in Nigerian music highlights the importance of diversity and the role of artists in shaping societal consciousness through their creative expressions. As the Nigerian music scene continues to grow and gain global recognition, the responsibility of artists to use their platforms for positive change becomes even more significant.
