Blaqbonez Names His Top Five Greatest Afrobeats Songs of All Time
Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has revealed his list of the greatest Afrobeats songs of all time, placing 2Face Idibia’s classic hit African Queen at the top.
Speaking on a recent episode of the ‘Lagos’ podcast, Blaqbonez also included Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’, Burna Boy’s ‘Ye’, Davido’s ‘If’, and M.I’s ‘Safe’ as some of the most iconic songs in the genre’s history.
Notably absent from his selection were global chart-toppers like D’banj’s ‘Oliver Twist’, Wizkid and Tems’ ‘Essence’, Tyla’s ‘Water’, CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’, and Rema’s ‘Calm Down’, despite their significant impact in pushing Afrobeats onto the world stage.
“My list of top five greatest Afrobeats songs of all time is very simple: ‘African Queen’ by 2Face, Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’, Burna Boy’s ‘Ye’, Davido’s ‘If’, and ‘Safe’ by M.I,” he said.
His selections have sparked debate among fans, with many questioning his choices and the exclusion of songs that have gained massive global recognition.
