Toke Makinwa Says She’s Open to Being a Second, Third, or Even Fifth Wife
Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has revealed she’s open to becoming a second, third, fourth, or even fifth wife, saying she’s reached a stage in her life where her view on marriage has shifted.
Speaking candidly on the latest episode of her “Toke Moments” podcast, Makinwa told her guest, fashion designer Banke Kuku, that being an independent woman can sometimes feel exhausting.
“As independent women, do you think we’ve glamourised this notion of being independent?” she asked Kuku, who agreed, describing the lifestyle as “tough.”
Makinwa then admitted, “At this point in my life, if I have the opportunity to be the second, third, fourth, or fifth wife, I will take it.”
She explained that while she’s proud of her achievements, constantly being in charge can be overwhelming. “I am the boss everywhere and that could be tiring. You feel like you need someone to lean on. Someone that could decide what is for dinner. Must it be me?” she said.
The actress was previously married to fitness entrepreneur Maje Ayida in 2014, but their marriage ended in 2017. In late 2024, rumours swirled that she had secretly married longtime friend Farouk Umar, but she dismissed the claims, saying the supposed wedding was actually a Thanksgiving celebration and that the two were simply “besties.”
Makinwa’s honest take on marriage has sparked conversations online, with many praising her for challenging societal expectations and speaking her truth.
