Rick Ross ‘Didn’t Touch’ the First Million He Made After Signing to Jay-Z

Rick Ross, the renowned Hip Hop artist, recently revealed a significant financial milestone from his early career days.

During an appearance on the season one finale episode of Daily Deposits Miami, which premiered on September 19, Ross discussed a life-changing deal he secured with JAY-Z and L.A. Reid at Def Jam in the mid-2000s. Notably, Ross disclosed that he received a whopping $1 million as part of the deal and made the surprising revelation that he didn’t spend a single dollar of it.

The Florida native shared how the $1 million mark had always been his goal, but once he achieved it, his ambitions expanded. Ross stated, “It’s like when I signed, when I did my deal [with] JAY-Z and L.A. Reid – I got a mil ticket off the rip. You see? So when I got it, the plan changed right then.” He explained that his initial goal had been to become a millionaire, but upon receiving the million-dollar payment, his aspirations evolved. “Now it’s [$5 million.] You know what I’m saying?” he added.

Ross went on to reveal that upon receiving his first million dollars, he was extremely motivated and inspired. Contrary to what many might expect, he didn’t spend it on extravagant purchases like cars. Ross had already owned a Maybach and a white BMW with custom white rims, so he decided to prioritize saving and investing. He wanted to focus on accumulating wealth and mentioned that he had a hit record, was doing shows, and everything felt new to him.

Reflecting on his journey, Ross emphasized the importance of his financial discipline during this pivotal moment in his career. He stated, “So I said, ‘N-gga, I’m finna stack.’ So I just wanted to stack money. I had a hit record, I was doing shows. This all new to me. You gotta remember, before this I had been making music 15 years and really ain’t got nothing really from it.”

Rick Ross’ breakthrough single, “Hustlin’,” released in March 2006, played a crucial role in catapulting him into the spotlight. The track became a massive street anthem, cracked the Billboard Hot 100, and propelled his debut album, “Port of Miami,” which arrived later that year, to the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

Ross’ career took a significant turn when JAY-Z, who was serving as the president and CEO of Def Jam at the time, signed him to the legendary Hip Hop label. This move came after a fierce bidding war that involved other prominent record labels, including Diddy’s Bad Boy Records and Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc. Records.
