Tyla Surpasses Beyoncé’s Spotify Record with Landmark Album

South African singer Tyla has broken a major record previously held by Beyoncé, becoming the most streamed Black female artist of 2024 on Spotify.

Tyla’s self-titled debut album has achieved a remarkable 1.565 billion streams on the platform, surpassing Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which had 1.564 billion streams. The milestone also makes Tyla’s album the most streamed project by a female African artist in Spotify’s history.

The album’s lead single, Water, has been a standout success, nearing one billion streams. The track earned Tyla the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammy Awards, cementing her place as a global force in music.

Despite its massive success, Tyla’s album and its deluxe version were notably overlooked in the nominations for the upcoming 67th Grammy Awards.

Tyla’s achievements in 2024 have been groundbreaking. She is currently the most awarded African artist of the year, having secured 20 accolades, including a Grammy, three MTV EMAs, two BET Awards, an MTV VMA, and a Billboard Global Force Award. Her extensive honours also include multiple South African Music Awards, Basadi in Music Awards, and other cultural and creative industry recognitions.

This historic milestone highlights Tyla’s growing influence and cements her position as a trailblazer in the African and global music scenes.
