Whoopi Goldberg Gets Emotional During ‘Sister Act 2’ Reunion: Watch the Heartfelt Moment

Whoopi Goldberg, celebrated for her role in “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit,” was moved to tears during a special 30th-anniversary cast reunion on “The View.” The emotional moment came as actor David Kater recounted how Goldberg ensured the young stars of the film could celebrate their high school graduations during production.

Kater, 49, shared that production constraints prevented the young cast from attending their actual graduations. He recalled his disappointment, especially since he had composed a song for the occasion. “This beautiful lady right here just surprised us with the most amazing gift, which was basically corralling everybody and giving us an on-set graduation,” Kater said, referring to Goldberg.

The audience and cast applauded Goldberg, who, despite smiling and shaking her head, became visibly emotional. “The View” aired footage of the on-set graduation, showing Kater and co-star Lauryn Hill shaking Goldberg’s hand in white caps and gowns, followed by the cast celebrating together on a San Francisco basketball court.

The reunion also featured appearances from other stars, including Sheryl Lee Ralph, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Ryan Toby, Monica Calhoun, Tanya Trotter, Dionna Nichelle, Alex Martin, Frank Odell Howard, Jermaine Montell, DeeDee Magno Hall, Ashley Thompson, and Deondray Gossfield. Mervyn Warren and Marc Shaiman, who worked on the film’s music, also joined the event.

A highlight of the reunion was a performance of “Oh Happy Day,” with Goldberg dressed in a full nun habit and veil. The performance brought tears to Goldberg’s eyes, reflecting the deep emotional connection she has with the film and her co-stars.

In May, Goldberg reflected on her experiences filming the “Sister Act” series during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” She spoke about her ability to “mimic” singers, inspired by her mother, which helped her perform in the musicals.

A third installment, “The Sister Act 3: Kicking the Habit,” has been announced, featuring Goldberg alongside Bette Midler and Keke Palmer, according to IMDb.
