Why Dagrin Died Prematurely – Kenny Saint Brown

Gospel singer Kenny Saint Brown, popularly known as KSB, has suggested that the late rapper Dagrin may have died prematurely because he failed to include a request for long life in his prayer-themed verse on her 2010 song Turn Me Around.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Hoha podcast, the former Kennis Music artiste reflected on her collaboration with Dagrin and said his lyrics focused primarily on fame and material success, rather than a desire for longevity.

“When he [Dagrin] died, I cried because all the prayer requests in that song, God did it for him,” she said. “And I asked God what happened. He said, ‘Go and listen to his prayer request—there is no long life there.’ He just said, ‘Make I blow,’ ‘Mo fe ma gun Bentley,’ and that he wanted to be known worldwide. God granted everything.”

Olayitan Oladapo, better known as Dagrin, passed away on April 22, 2010, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) days after he was involved in a fatal car accident in Mushin, Lagos. His vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck in the early hours of the morning, leaving him critically injured until his death.

Dagrin is remembered as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s music scene, credited with popularising indigenous Yoruba rap. His influence grew even more profound in the years following his death, cementing his legacy as a cultural icon.
