In an exclusive feature in Pause Magazine’s Autium 2023 edition, Asake shared the heartwarming story of how he came to embrace the name that now represents his musical identity. The artist recounted that during his involvement in a cultural group, he was affectionately referred to as “omo Asake,” translating to “child of Asake” in the Yoruba language.

Over time, the name naturally transitioned from “omo Asake” to simply “Asake,” as it resonated with those around him. Embracing this newfound identity, Asake decided to officially adopt it as his stage name.

Reflecting on his choice, Asake expressed that he found the name appealing and decided to make it a permanent part of his artistic persona. His decision to honour his mother in this way underscores the significance of familial bonds and cultural heritage in his life.
