Wizkid Becomes First African Artist to Bag BRIT Billion Award

Grammy award-winning Nigerian artist, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has achieved a historic milestone as the first African musician to receive the prestigious BRIT Billion award for garnering over 1 billion streams in the United Kingdom (UK).

The Starboy boss was honoured with the esteemed award during a momentous occasion following his electrifying sold-out performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday.

Wizkid’s exceptional musical prowess has earned him millions of streams and sales in the UK. His collaboration with Drake on the chart-topping hit ‘One Dance,’ featuring Kyla, has been certified an astounding six times Platinum, selling over 3.6 million units.

Furthermore, his tracks ‘Energy,’ featuring Skepta, and ‘Essence,’ featuring Tems, have achieved Platinum status, while ‘Come Closer,’ featuring Drake, and ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ featuring Beyoncé, have been certified Gold.

Notably, Wizkid’s fourth studio album, ‘Made In Lagos,’ has also attained Gold certification in the UK, solidifying his status as a global musical sensation and a trailblazer for African artists in the international music scene. His BRIT Billion award marks a moment of pride for the Nigerian music industry and showcases the global impact of his talent and artistry.
