Wumi Toriola Clashes With Enioluwa Over Greeting at Lagos Event
Nigerian actress Wumi Toriola has sparked widespread reactions after a heated exchange with influencer Enioluwa over how he addressed her at a public event in Lagos.
The incident, captured in a now-viral video, occurred while Toriola was greeting colleagues Ini Edo and Eniola Ajao. As Enioluwa approached, he greeted her, saying, “Wumi, how are you?” and attempted to hug her.
Visibly displeased, the actress pushed him back and responded, “Are you insane? Did you just call my name? How dare you call me by my name?”
Enioluwa immediately tried to clarify, replying, “No, no, I didn’t say that. I said ‘Aunty Wumi, how are you?’”
Toriola, however, maintained her stance, adding, “You can’t greet me like that, you will have to prostrate to greet me. We are not mates.”
The exchange has since divided opinions online, with some supporting the actress’s emphasis on respect and cultural norms, while others criticised her reaction as excessive.
Responding to ongoing discussions, particularly about her age, Toriola wrote on her Instagram story: “I saw people debating my age. Nor be everyone Ise de gbo ooo. Na all my family get baby face. I finished secondary school in 2003. Do the maths. 16 nor dey enter uni that time.”
The incident has reignited conversations about generational differences, respect, and etiquette within Nigeria’s entertainment space.
